GPH Builders Merchants Aberdeenshire & District League, Turriff United v Fraserburgh, Monday 25th November 2017, all weather surface, Turriff
Broch blown away by Turra youngsters
The Broch suffered their first defeat in this season's GPH Builders Merchants Aberdeenshire & District League despite taking a first half lead in a match switched from the Haughs to the all weather surface at Turriff. The home side roared back to take a 3-1 half time lead and then extended their lead midway through the second half. The visitors briefly threatened a comeback when Jordan Smith reduced the leeway to 4-2 but Turriff scored a fifth almost immediately to extend their advantage at the top of the table.
The Broch started well with Cameron Buchan going close with a header from a Liam Norris corner which went past the post. Turriff looked dangerous on the break and Louis Myers saw his drive well saved by Edward Flinn before Angus Grant also had an effort which flashed wide of goal. On 19 minutes Myers had another chance for the home side but failed to hit the target from close range.
Two minutes later Michael Ironside went close with a drive across Edward Flinn from the right side of the area which the Broch keeper did well to save. The Broch took the lead on 23 minutes when Nathan Stuart whipped in a cross to the Turriff area and Liam Norris flicked the ball over a Turriff defender but saw his first attempt save before forcing home the rebound from 10 yards out.
Ironside was causing the Broch defence all sorts of problems on the right and he brought out another good save from Flinn but the visitors keeper was helpless on 27 minutes when the Turriff winger finally beat him to level the score. Two minutes later Ironside broke clear again and slotted the ball past Flinn at the near post. The home side scored a third on 34 minutes when Louis Myers finished with a low drive past Flinn after good work again by Ironside.
Half Time: Turriff United 3 Fraserburgh 1
The Broch replaced the ineffective Arnadas Cepulis with Andrew Hannar at the start of the second half but midway through the period the home side added a fourth goal when a free kick by Angus Grant was spilled by Edward Flinn straight into the path of Michael Ironside who slotted the ball home for his hat-trick.
Shaun Spence then replaced Ross Grant and Dylan Marshall came on for Stewart Rennie as the visitors tried to shake things up. Ryan Sargent had a great chance to pull a goal back for the Broch after being released by Liam Norris but his shot across Aaron Sherman in the home goal whistled past the far post.
Ross Mowatt then replaced Edward Flinn in goal for the visitors with eleven minutes to go and Mantis Cepulis also came on for Nathan Stuart. Almost immediately Jordan Smith swept the ball home from Ryan Sargent's cross to reduce the leeway. However any thoughts the Broch had of a comeback were quickly dispelled as Ryan Botell fired a fifth for Turriff.
