GPH Builders Merchants Aberdeenshire & District League, Fraserburgh v Banks O' Dee, Monday 5th February 2018, Bellslea Park, Fraserburgh
Broch dump leaders to increase chances of League title
The visitors almost took an early lead on two minutes when Neale Allan saw his effort blocked with the rebound falling to Michael Taylor but his shot was cleared off the line. Three minutes later Paul Leask did well to block another shot this time from Lachie MacLeod after the Banks O’ Dee player had been released into the Broch penalty area.
The Broch goalkeeper did even better on 11 minutes when he spectacularly tipped Michael Taylor’s 20 yard screamer onto the crossbar and over for a corner. Five minutes later Andrew Hannar and Jack Simpson combined on the right with the latter’s cross met by Liam Norris but his shot flashed wide of goal.
Just after the half hour Jordan Smith and Greg Buchan combined at the edge of the box playing a 1-2 by Buchan’s shot curled wide of goal. Two minutes later Paul Leask brought off another fantastic save this time to tip Adam MacLennan’s shot from the left side of the penalty area over the bar.
Half Time: Fraserburgh 0 Banks O’ Dee 0
Neither side created much in the first part of the second half but the home side took the lead on 57 minutes when Greg Buchan broke forward from midfield and played the ball out to Andrew Hannar on the left and when his cross arrived at the feet of Jordan Smith he rifled the ball home from close range.
Greg Buchan then set up Jordan Smith with another chance on 69 minutes but the Broch striker’s shot was blocked and when the rebound came back to Buchan he fired wide. Six minutes later Greg Buchan’s corner from the right was just missed by the onrushing Cameron Buchan but the ball broke to Ryan Sargent who saw his effort deflected wide.
With ten minutes left Banks O’ Dee had a chance when Jamie Buglass fired a shot from 20 yards just past Paul Leask’s right hand post. At the other end Jordan Smith and Blair Fraser combined with the latter showing great strength to force the visitor’s keeper into a save and then Smith forced Sahhalevtis into another good save from a header.
