Press & Journal Scottish Highland Football League, Fraserburgh v Forres Mechanics, Saturday 27th January 2018, Bellslea Park
Broch's six appeal down Mechanics
The Broch came from behind to record a comfortable victory over Forres Mechanics at Bellslea Park. Lee Fraser gave the visitors the lead midway through the first half but a deflected Lewis Davidson effort levelled the score and Gary Harris’ bundled home just before half time to give the hosts the lead. Four goals in the space of 11 minutes from Aidan Combe, Gary Harris (pen) and a brace from Paul Campbell one of which was another penalty cemented the Broch’s second place spot in the League table.
Mark Cowie made two changes to the side which had drawn with Locos two weeks earlier. Cameron Buchan and Ryan Christie replaced the rested Dean Cowie and Jamie Beagrie who missed the game due to work commitments.
Forres were first to threaten on 4 minutes when Lee Fraser received the ball 20 yards out and fired in a shot which Peter Tait did well to turn round the post. At the other end Willliam West crossed into the Forres area but Cameron Buchan’s header was well saved by Stuart Knight.
Both sides then had a goal chalked off with Gary Harris flagged for offside having put the ball into the Forres net and at the other end the visitors had an effort ruled out for a push.
Forres took the lead on 19 minutes when the Broch failed to clear a corner properly and Robert Duncanson’s effort was deflected into the path of Lee Fraser who slotted home from 12 yards.
The home side levelled after 27 minutes when Gary Harris and Cameron Buchan combined on the left and when the ball was only half cleared to Lewis Davidson he fired home from 20 yards via a deflection.
On 31 minutes a short corner by Robert Duncanson to Andrew Macrae saw the winger try to force his way through the Broch defence but his effort was blocked and Stuart Soane saw his effort from the rebound cleared to safety.
On 36 minutes Paul Young released Paul Campbell through the middle and the striker outpaced the Forres defence before firing his effort just over the crossbar.
Two minutes later the Broch took the lead when William West flicked the ball on and Cameron Buchan drilled in a cross from the left which Gary Harris bundled home off his knee at the near post.
Half Time: Fraserburgh 2 Forres Mechanics 1
Forres forced a chance on 55 minutes when a corner by Robert Duncan son was met by Graham Fraser and Peter Tait tipped it over. At the other end Ryan Cowie’s long free kick dropped for Paul Campbell inside the box but he couldn’t make proper contact as he tried to hook the ball home.
A good move involving Lewis Davidson, Paul Young and Gary Harris on the right was thwarted when Graham Fraser cleared the latter’s dangerous cross for a corner.
On 71 minutes the Broch made it 3-1 when Ryan Cowie’s throw in was flicked into the path of Aidan Combe by William West and the young winger drilled the ball home from 12 yards. The stand side assistant did have his flag up for offside but was overruled by referee Chris Phillips.
Four minutes later the Broch made it 4-1 from the penalty spot after Aidan Combe had been bundled over by Andrew Macrae and Gary Harris made no mistake from the spot.
It was 5-1 after 78 minutes when Paul Young released Paul Campbell down the left and he raced into the Forres penalty area cut inside before firing the ball past Stuart Knight into the net.
Four minutes later and Paul Campbell was at it again. This time he raced clear and tried to round Stuart Knight before being hauled down by the Forres keeper who received a yellow card for his trouble. The Broch striker dusted himself down to slot home the penalty.
With two minutes remaining Lewis Davidson had another effort well saved by the Forres custodian after Michael Rae had slipped the ball into the Broch full back.
